We’re the art workshop that’s not just for artists. We’ve been leading small groups of creative people to Italy for over twenty years, founding Arts Sojourn in 1999 out of our belief that the best travel, as well as the best painting, comes through direct observation.
With us, you’ll experience a different kind of tourism – one that nurtures your creative spirit, supports your independence, and encourages your personal involvement. You’ll savor Italy slowly, discovering favorite neighborhood cafés, outdoor markets, and tranquil botanical gardens. We know the hidden gems most guidebooks overlook and we’ll share them all with you.
Each Arts Sojourn is impeccably planned and facilitated. Every detail gets our personal attention — from our thorough pre-trip orientation services and coordinated ground transportation, to our carefully vetted four-star hotels. You’ll notice the difference immediately from the moment you contact us.
We invite you to check out our next sojourns. We just might be the Italian travel experience you’ve been looking for.
About the Art Workshop
The flexible format of our painting workshop always attracts a diverse group of artists, from well-known professionals, to hobbyists, and every level in between. We function as a group of friends, working in a supportive environment and learning from each other. There’s no pressure to produce or perform.
Matthew is always willing to have you join him at a painting site for more “hands on” instruction, but our emphasis is always on painting for pleasure. Some Sojourners make painting a priority, some paint only occasionally, and some not at all. The choice is always yours. We discuss our artwork and travel adventures every evening over a glass of wine in our group show and tell meetings.
Matthew Daub’s watercolors and drawings have been included in exhibitions at institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the National Academy of Design, to name just a few. He has over thirty years of university teaching experience in all mediums. Barbara Daub is an avid gardener and Italian cook, as well as a talented artist in her own right.
